Every few years, the United Nations appoints a special representative whose sole focus is ending violence against children worldwide. Dr Najat Malla M'jid holds that role— and as the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children (UNSRSG-VAC), she listens to young people across the globe, amplifies their voices, and pushes governments to act.

On 20 October 2024, Adnan, Hong Jun, Han De, and Giselle got to do exactly that — sitting down with Dr Najat alongside other children and youth from across Asia to share what's on their minds. They raised issues they want governments to tackle: bullying, sexual abuse and exploitation, and academic stress made worse by parental pressure.

Their voices didn't stop there. Dr Najat brought the views gathered across three regional dialogues— covering Asia and beyond— directly to the 1st Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, held from 7–8 November 2024. This was a landmark gathering where governments from around the world came together to recommit to protecting children.
